Swiss National Day is celebrated on August 1st. It commemorates the oath sworn in 1291 by the cantons of Uri, Schwyz and Unterwalden on the Grütli meadow near Lake Lucerne. This founding act of the Helvetic Confederation was intended to form an alliance to protect their respective borders.
For over a century, this celebration has become a day of festivities throughout the country.
In the magnificent Parc de la Grange, concerts, entertainment, demonstrations, an ecological village and catering will be at the heart of the national holiday.
